Himalayan Dalai Lama

“Sophisticated dance electronic music”

Electronic music knows no boundaries as Himalayan Dalai Lama clearly shows. The duo's origins are a lot closer than their name suggests. Hailing from Brno, the second largest city in the Czech Republic, Kryštof Matěj and David Novotný are adepts at the downtempo arts of chillwave, ambient, triphop and techno. Himalayan Dalai Lama was part of the famous Czech Radio project Audioport and the duo has performed alongside Slow Magic, Kiasmos, Erol Alkan and others at the biggest Czech music festival Colours of Ostrava.

Himalayan Dalai Lama have won the music export project "Czeching" powered by Czech Radio's youth station Radio Wave. In the beginning of the year 2017 they performed at Eurosonic Noorderslag, one of the biggest showcase festivals in the world. During the year 2017 they toured with slovak well known band Fallgrapp. They also performed at famous Grape Festival and many others festivals in Czech Republic and Slovakia.

International Jury Members’ Opinions

"Great arrangement and production. Great variation in sounds, instruments and figures and rhythms. At the same time all the way through moody and cinematic. You just have to listen...."

Fan Sneum (radio presenter and music editor, Denmark)

"Their music is immediate, passionate, but most of all it's fun. They play with sounds, molding them into something futuristic and traditional at the same time."

Wojciech Barczyński (music programmer, OFF Radio Krakow)

"Himalayan Dalai Lama have a very complex and contemporary sound, yet their music is very easy to listen to. They manage to grasp your attention without a singer and that is very impressive."

Lörinc Bubnó (musician, editor of Radio Petöfi, Hungary)
